I am a political sociologist focusing mainly on party systems. Since my PhD, I have been working on the transformation of Western European party systems and the rise of extreme right-wing populist parties. In parallel, I have been studying historical party system formation and evolution in Latin America from the early 20th Century to the so-called "Left Turn". My focus in this research has been to explain differences in substantive representation, including the varying role that populism can play in this process.
