I am a researcher in the field of political communication, with special expertise in experimental methodology. By using experimental designs, I seek to establish causal effects of exposure to news content on citizens' political attitudes. My main interests are anti-immigrant sentiment and the mass consolidation of populism as a distinct worldview. In my doctoral thesis, I show that negative portrayals of immigration lead to stronger media skepticism, preference for concentration of power and European cultural identity. The convergence of these three phenomena indicates they are dimensions of the same underlying process: the ideological 'thickening' of populism.
